Incline curl vs. preacher curlRosca inclinada x rosca Scott

Same total growth — different muscles. Your shoulder position decides where.Mesmo crescimento total — músculos diferentes. A posição do ombro decide onde.

Your elbow flexors are three muscles: the biceps, the brachialis (underneath it) and the brachioradialis (forearm). A 2026 study in the Journal of Sports Sciences tested whether shoulder position changes which of them grows most.

How they tested it

21 untrained adults trained for 12 weeks, twice a week. One arm did the incline curl (shoulder behind the body), the other did the preacher curl (shoulder in front). 5 sets of 10 reps. Muscle volume was measured by MRI.

Results

  • Incline curl: more biceps growth (+22.1% vs +18.9%).
  • Preacher curl: more brachialis (+21.1% vs +17.1%) and brachioradialis growth (+17.6% vs +13.5%).
  • Total elbow-flexor growth was similar.
There's no "best" curl. There's the best curl for the muscle you want to prioritize.

Why

The biceps crosses the shoulder joint. With the shoulder behind the body (incline), the biceps works at a longer length. With the shoulder in front (preacher), it's shortened — and the brachialis and brachioradialis take more of the work.

How to use it

Want a fuller biceps? Prioritize incline curls. Want thicker arms overall, including the forearm? Keep preacher curls in. Doing both covers everything.

Limits: only untrained people, and differences were small to moderate. It needs to be replicated in trained lifters.

O bíceps cruza a articulação do ombro.

Priorize a rosca inclinada. Quer braço mais grosso no geral, incluindo o antebraço? Mantenha a Scott. Fazer as duas cobre tudo.
